This article describes how to measure the torque for cables used with LUCID cameras.
Cameras in the Triton, Atlas, and Helios camera families have an M12 and M8 connections for GPIO and Ethernet that have a threaded connection. These threaded connections have the following recommended torque values:
- M8 GPIO cables: 0.2 Nm
- M12 GPIO cables: 0.5 Nm
- M12 Ethernet cables: 0.5 Nm
These torque values are recommended to ensure IP67 dust and water resistance.
Tool for both M8 and M12 cable connectors
LUCID recommends the following combination of tools if you want to accurately set the torque for both M8 and M12 cables.
| Component | Part name / Link |
|---|---|
| TorqueVario-S Screwdriver | Wiha 28550 |
| 4 mm Hex Torque Blade | Wiha 28549 |
| M8 bit | Phoenix Contact 1208461 |
| M12 bit | Phoenix Contact 1208432 |

Figure 1: TorqueVario-S screwdriver with hex blade and bits.
Procedure
- Configure the torque screwdriver to the correct torque using the adjusting tool included with the screwdriver.
- Attach the desired bit and the hex blade to the torque screwdriver.
- Loosely thread the cable connector on to the camera port.
Note: If you are using the camera in environments exposed to vibration, first apply a removable thread locker (e.g. Loctite 242/243). - Use the assembled screwdriver to tighten the cable connector. When it reaches the desired torque, the screwdriver will make a “pop[AT3.1][MM3.2]” sound.
Note: Do not tighten the connector further using the same torque setting. The cable connector gradually become overtightened.

Tool for M12 cable connectors
If you are just looking for an M12 connector, you can use the following
| Component | Part name / Link |
|---|---|
| Torque Screwdriver | Torque Screwdriver with Click-Torque Limiter, 0.3 to 1.2 NM Torque |
| 4mm Hex bit | 4 mm Hex Bit, 1/4" Hex Shank |
| M12 bit | Phoenix Contact 1208432 |

Procedure
- Configure the torque screwdriver to the correct torque.
- Assemble the screwdriver, hex shank, and M12 bit.
- Loosely thread the M8 cable connector on to the camera port.
Note: If you are using the camera in environments exposed to vibration, first apply a removable thread locker (e.g. Loctite 242/243). - Use the assembled screwdriver to tighten the cable connector. When it reaches the desired torque, the screwdriver will make a “click” sound.
Note: Do not tighten the connector further using the same torque setting. The cable connector will gradually become overtightened.
